STEAM during holiday program
We ended our school holidays full of achievements and opportunities to grow and learn. Continuing with our activities these two months of January and February we have focused on the STEAM program. STEAM education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Using STEAM education results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. Robotics, electronics, chess and mathematics have been exciting activities, full of learning and building for the children.
The robotics and electronics workshops are a valuable space directed by an electronic engineer where the children created a robot by choosing the model. In this workshop the children were able to use the tablets to enrich their learning and develop analytical and own thoughts. The electronics workshop was a learning journey and a collaborative space where the older group learned how to make distance and light sensors.
Between games and art activities, children spend fun afternoons learning English. Our volunteers have been part of this learning process, teaching this language to all groups of children. Another volunteer taught computer classes, teaching how to make a presentation and how to use Word, for many of them it was the first experience in using the computer.
As daily activities always take place, the coordinators and tutors accompany the children in their learning process and the improvement of difficulties by listening carefully to what the child expresses. Our support workshops these two months have been focused on being prepared for the new school year.
Education is a fundamental right of people and society. From our organization we work to reduce the gaps of inequality and so that our children have a quality and inclusive education.
